Mobile engineer
Remote · Europe and South Africa. Full-time. Hours that overlap Europe and South Africa.
About the role
FAMLY is a Next.js product wrapped for phones with Capacitor, plus Ambient Mode meant to live on a tablet on the counter. Native widget stubs already talk to the Fastify widgets API. We are not a React Native shop. You would make mobile and tablet feel like they belong in a home, not like a shrunk website.
What you'll do
- Own the Capacitor iOS and Android shell, including notifications, safe areas, and store-ready builds.
- Make Ambient Mode hold up on a tablet left in the kitchen: glanceable, readable, easy to exit.
- Improve native home-screen widgets that call the Fastify widgets API.
- Pair with web engineering so one pnpm monorepo still ships a coherent household app.
What we're looking for
- Shipping experience with Capacitor, or native iOS and Android plus a willingness to work in this shell.
- Care about tablet UX, not only phones. Ambient Mode is a first-class surface.
- Comfort debugging WebView quirks without throwing away the shared Next.js app.
- Based in Europe or South Africa, with hours that overlap CET and SAST.
